CGA NEWS

CGA 2009 Spring Workshop: Spatial-Temporal Modeling

It has become a CGA tradition to host a spring workshop every year. Since 2006, the CGA workshop series has covered the topics of geographic analysis, remote sensing, and georeferencing. For the spring of 2009, we turn to a classical yet rapidly evolving topic – Spatial-Temporal Modeling.

CHGIS Releases Placename Search Tool
The China Historical GIS has developed a tool to search its database of over 175,000 places in China, returning matches in text format.  Use the tool:

ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1 Available
ESRI has released service pack 1 for ArcGIS 9.3.  CGA now recommends using ArcGIS 9.3 in combination with the service pack, instead of version 9.2.

Thinking Globally and Mapping Locally

CGA research affiliate Akiyuki Kawasaki recently presented his watershed modeling research.  Harvard Science website is currently featuring an article on it:

Tracts to Text Adjacency Matrix Tool

For a recently completed project the CGA created a tool in ArcGIS that receives census tract boundaries as input, and outputs a text file listing each tract and all adjacent tracts.  The text file can then be used for statistical analysis.

Surgical Safety Web Map
CGA has recently completed a Google Maps mash-up for Harvard School of Public Health Researchers involved with the Safe Surgery Saves Lives program:

CaGIS Scholarships - this one is not Harvard news

Each year, the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) sponsors two scholarships to students whose research and accomplishments support the mission of CaGIS. The scholarships recognize academic achievement and encourage the continuing education of outstanding cartography, geographic information systems (GIS), and geographic information science (GIScience) students.  For information and to apply for the scholarship:
