Abstract:
NLGIS-2 project (http://www.nlgis.nl) was developed for non-GIS experts to easily plot data on historical maps and to disseminate information on the maps and the underlying data from the Historical Database of Dutch Municipalities. This talk will cover past, present and future of Dutch GIS and technical aspects of data processing and visualization on historical maps. Finally the “Technological Singularity” example will be presented where Harvard WorldMap Map Warper Tool will be used to plot old school maps from New York Library merged with accurate historical maps coming from NLGIS-2 and data extracted from Dutch Historical Census Data (CEDAR project), and projected on Google Maps by LeafletR.
