CGA Conference 2014 Articles

The year’s conference “Geospatial Technology and Online Education” was held on May 2, 2014.  Over 50 people were in attendance, and 15 posters were featured in the poster session.  Two articles were written about this event: Geo-enabled Education Online in Directions Magazine; and CGA Explores Online Education at Its Annual Conference, written by the Institute for Quantitative Social Science.  Conference videos will be forthcoming.

2014 Fisher Prize Winners

This year’s Fisher Prize for Excellence in GIS winners are Leif Estrada (Graduate Category) for his entry: “Temporal Morphology: Synthetic Growth and Natural Decline of Alameda Island” and Jake Sobstyl (Undergraduate Category) for his entry: “Zero-touch scale-free and climate independent thermal energy audits”.  Congratulations to the winners!  View the posters and judges’ comments.

CGA’s Monthly GIS Presentations – come join the discussion

New Map for the Out of Eden Walk Project – “Walking Jerusalem”

Spatiotemporal Innovation Center Holds First Board Meeting

The Spatiotemporal Innovation Center funded by the NSF I/UCRC program (http://www.nsf.gov/eng/iip/iucrc/) and member companies and agencies (http://stcenter.net/), held its first Industry Advisory Board meeting at George Mason University on May 12-13th. Researchers from three universities (George Mason, UC Santa Barbara and Harvard) met with more than twenty representatives from various industry companies and government agencies. Dr. Lynn Usery of the USGS was elected as the chair of the center’s Industry Advisory Board. In addition, about twenty research proposals were presented and evaluated. HAPI Summer GIS Research Assistant

The Center for Health and Global Environment at the Harvard School of Public Health is seeking a qualified candidate for summer research assistance related to the Center’s Health and Places Initiative focused on China urban environments. This position runs ten weeks from May 30 to August 15, with some flexibility. More details can be found here.
