January GIS Institute Application Deadline: 10/23
Twice per year, the Center for Geographic Analysis offers a two-week program of intensive training in geographic information systems (GIS). It is offered next in January of 2012, and meets daily for two weeks, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.
The program is designed for Harvard graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty who want to learn spatial analysis and apply GIS methods in their research. No previous GIS training is required.  The deadline to apply for the Institute is October 23. To learn more and register:

Integrating Spatial Thinking and Geospatial Technology Into Harvard Classrooms
Kirk Goldsberry joined the CGA as a visiting scholar in July 2011. His primary duty is to integrate spatial reasoning and geospatial technologies within existing Harvard courses. Kirk is currently working with several professors around campus to develop course materials that take advantage of geographic concepts and geospatial technologies, including WorldMap. The goal is to expose students and faculty to the powerful abilities of GIS and spatial thinking.

WorldMap Update
WorldMap, a web platform designed to allow collaborators to explore, visualize, and publish geographic information, was released in beta mode this July.  Currently there are 592 registered users, 232 maps have been published, and 1,078 data layers have been added.  WorldMap is being used in several Harvard classes, and the next training session being offered will be on October 7

NEWS ON GIS RESEARCH AND SERVICES

 

The Future of Spatial Analysis, Visualization, and GIS in Planning

This presentation by Luc Anselin is open to the public, and will be on Thursday, September 29th, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in room E14-648 on the 6

th

 floor of the MIT Media Lab building at 75 Amherst Street, Cambridge.  Luc Anselin is the Director and Walter Isard Chair at the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University. He is also the Director of the GeoDa Center for Geospatial Analysis and Computation.  Anselin is the developer of the SpaceStat and GeoDa software packages for spatial data analysis, and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2008.

 

Tenure Track Positions Open at Clark University
