CGA 2010 Conference Announcement: Research on Religion

The CGA is pleased to announce our co-sponsored 2010 conference: “New Technologies and Interdisciplinary Research on Religion” to be held March 12-13, 2010.  The conference is organized by the Political Economy of Religion Program, Taubman Center, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and co-sponsored by the Center for Geographic Analysis, Institute for Quantitative Social Science, Harvard University, as well as the Sigma Xi Harvard Chapter. Conference presentations will focus on combining the content of research on religion with database design, geo-referencing, social network analysis, text-mining, remote-sensing, and spatial-temporal analysis.  The registration form, scheduled speakers, presentation abstracts, and other information are available at: http://gis.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k235&pageid=icb.page190012

GeoTime Software Available for Trial

This software allows for visualization of spatial temporal data through a 3D interactive animation interface.  The CGA has a 30 day trial version (expiring on December 23) installed on one of our help desk machines for use.  More on the software:

HARVARD GIS COMMUNITY NEWS

Harvard University Web Map

This is a demonstration version of an interactive internet map application for Harvard’s campuses using ESRI’s ArcGIS Server technology. In addition to a base map showing streets and buildings, etc., it includes map layers for bicycle facilities, museums, buildings with wireless LAN access, and accessibility and alternative energy projects.  Many additional layers are under development, and suggestions are welcome. Search and query interaction is also possible. Because the data layers are available as map services, they can be directly incorporated into projects by desktop ArcGIS Map users.  View the map:

HealthMap on the iPhone

This iPhone app allows you to search and browse H1N1 or other disease reports on an interactive map, set alerts that send notices automatically whenever an outbreak is occurring in your area, and allows for individual reporting of outbreaks.  The app is based on the Healthmap.org global disease alert map created in part by Harvard Medical School.

CONFERENCES

UCGIS 2010 Winter Meeting

The University Consortium for Geographic Information Sciences Winter Meeting will feature presentations about “Research on Geospatial Measures of Efficiency, Efficacy and Equity in Government Policy”. This will include discussions about cloud computing, H1N1 and social networking, geospatial inequities in education and health policies, spatial data infrastructure for emergency management, and the smart (electrical) grid. The conference is in Washington, D.C., February 4-5, 2010.  For more details:

Call for Papers: GIScience Research Track

ESRI is accepting paper submissions through December 15, 2009 to the GIScience Research Track for the 2010 ESRI International User Conference and Educational User Conference. Papers in this special track must focus on cutting-edge research in GIScience. Full papers will be included in a special issue of Transactions in GIS to be distributed at the 2010 Conference.
