Japan Sendai Earthquake Data Portal
In response to the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11 the CGA launched a web portal for posting and sharing geographic information and maps of the affected areas. The website has received thousands of hits per day since it went live a few hours after the earthquake. Hundreds of datasets are available at the website, and links to many informative web maps: http://cegrp.cga.harvard.edu/japan/?q=content/home

CGA Spring Conference: World Map Training and Poster/Video Contest
The annual CGA spring conference “Geospatial Collaboration: New Common Ground” will be held May 6-7 in Cambridge. Instructor led training sessions will be offered on how to use WorldMap on Saturday, May 7, as part of the conference. Go here register for the training:

WorldMap is a spatial data and mapping application that allows one to use existing data, upload one’s own data, create maps, collaborate with others, and publish for restricted or public viewing. More on WorldMap: http://worldmap.harvard.edu/
The CGA is also inviting poster and video submissions for inclusion in the video and poster session to be held in conjunction with the conference. Call for Submissions: Fisher Prize in GIS at Harvard
This year’s Howard T. Fisher award for excellence in Geographic Information Science will include two categories: Poster and Video, with a $500 prize given to the award winner in each category. In addition, the poster and video submissions will be featured at the annual CGA workshop “Geospatial Collaboration: New Common Ground”. Deadline for submittals is Friday, April 29, 2011. Post-Doc Position Opening at CGA

Call for Registration: GEOIDE Summer School
The 2011 GEOmatics for Informed Decisions Summer School (GSS) will be held at the University of Toronto at Scarborough in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from May 20th to 25th, 2011. The GSS is designed for graduate students and will offer courses in three trendy and innovative fields of Geomatics consisting of: Geomatics and Temporality, Risk Analysis and Management, and Visualization of space. Spaces are limited and registration will close on May 1st, 2011.

Geography Education Grant Award
The National Conference on Geography Education Research Committee is accepting proposals for the E. Willard and Ruby S. Miller Geography Education Research Grant, which will be rewarded to help research issues related to geography education for 2011. Proposals must be submitted by April 8, 2011, and may request up to $4,000 for projects lasting up to 24 months. The deadline for proposal submission is Fri 8 April 2011.
